Tennessee State women’s hoops takes on Wright State in home opener

NASHVILLE – Tennessee State women’s basketball returns to the Gentry Center on Friday night for the 2025-26 home opener, hosting Wright State at 7 p.m. The contest is the second game of the season for the Lady Tigers under head coach Candice Dupree.

Tennessee State (0-1) opened the year with a gritty 59-53 road battle at Middle Tennessee on Monday morning. The Lady Tigers erased a double-digit deficit and briefly led in the fourth after holding MTSU to just six points in the third quarter. Aaniya Webb paced TSU with 17 points, while Somah Kamara added 11. Xai’Onna Whitfield posted nine points and eight rebounds, Erin Martin collected eight boards with four blocks, and Kiki Roberts grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as TSU finished with 41 total rebounds, including 22 on the offensive glass. Tennessee State also tallied nine team blocks and 17 second-chance points.

Friday marks the third all-time meeting between Tennessee State and Wright State. The Raiders lead the series 1-0; the most recent matchup came on November 15, 2024, a 77-65 Wright State win in Dayton.
